The main responsibility of a business development officer is to assess the operations of a company, develop plans to expand its customer base, and ultimately improve the overall profit margins of the company. A successful candidate in this field has to work in direct contact with the managerial team of a business.
Business development specialists must have extensive knowledge of the marketplace and current market trends, have an ability to analyze data, use skills to evaluate business plans and improve these accordingly, have productive time management skills, and display excellent standards in written and oral communication.
A person applying for this position should not only have an advanced degree in a relevant field, like business management or retail marketing, but also prove experience in research-based qualifications. A general salary in business development can range from anywhere between C
$50,000 and C
$100,000 upward, particularly in large cities like Montreal and Vancouver.
