Heavy Equipment Operator
Heavy equipment operators are involved in work such as ditching, excavating and grading. Other tasks include sloping, banking and stripping. There are no educational requirements for this position but previous hands-on experience is beneficial when applying for a job.
Persons in this job are expected to use machinery such as backhoe excavators and loaders. Work settings can include road construction and pipeline construction. Applicants may be required to have a Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System certificate and a valid driver’s license.
Candidates need their own transportation and should be willing to travel to different sites. They need to have the skills to operate heavy equipment and be able to clean equipment. They should have the knowledge to refill equipment and perform equipment checks.
This job position requires attention to detail and employees may be asked to have their own steel toed safety boots. Salaries differ depending on the job assignment but an average hourly rate is C
$30.00.
