A career in law requires an excellent knowledge of general legal practice and also a specialisation in a specific area of law. Skills required include a very high standard of verbal and written communication, the ability to keep accurate records and write legal reports, the ability to work as part of a team and excellent presentation skills, as people working in law are often required to attend court hearings.
Other skills include having a good standard of computer literacy and being highly organised with excellent decision making skills. The ability to work to deadlines and to be able to plan and prioritise a workload is essential.
There are many different jobs within the field of law; a law related degree is usually essential and many positions will provide employees with further training, which focuses in a specific field of law. The average salary for those working in law ranges from C
$30,000 to over C
$100,000, depending on knowledge and experience.
