A plumber plays an important role in ensuring the maintenance of a building’s water pipe system and layout. The job requires the installation and repair of heating and water systems as well as other major appliances. It is normal for someone with prior professional experience in the role to work independently.
Individuals in the role assemble pipes using sealing methods such as glue, bolts, clamps, cement, caulking and screws, and if necessary, light welding activities may be performed. The role includes ensuring the water is supplied without leakages and to assemble, overhaul, repair and fit plumbing fixtures and systems in a facility.
It is important that those in the position: can read layout plans and blueprints, can handle all plumbing equipments and tools, know how to assemble and install valves and are able to inspect a facility in order to determine any problems or the size and type of pipes which will be required.
