A millwright is an integral part of manufacturing plant operations. Their versatility and skills at assembling, maintenance and replacement of heavy machinery, in anything from textile workshops to locomotive construction depots, is invaluable to employers.

Industrial mechanics are mostly concerned with routine maintenance tasks to ensure production systems run smoothly. Individuals may also be called upon to fabricate and replace broken parts as well as decommission old machinery in plant shutdowns. Incumbents are expected to be conversant with the power and hand tools used in the profession.
Successful applicants will have completed high school and possibly a millwright’s vocational course. Job holders are expected to be numerate, have a mechanical aptitude, able to understand and work from blueprints, and be decisive and capable of working unsupervised.
There are openings for industrial mechanics in most urban areas of Canada, in towns such as Mississauga, Edmonton and Toronto. Candidates will usually be required to work shifts and weekends. Salaries range from C

$70,000, dependant on location and length of experience.
