The housekeeper at a hotel is normally an entry-level job. Experience is not a must, but the ability to clean a hotel room quickly and efficiently is. Most hotels will have a quota for their cleaning staff, such as being able to clean 15 rooms in one eight-hour shift. Housekeeping jobs tend to be shift-based.
Hotels will normally provide specific training to such staff in areas such as how guest rooms are to be cleaned, including the changing of sheets and towels. Some hotels will be specific as to how beds are to be made or how toiletries are to be laid out in the bathroom. Attention to detail, reporting damages or lost and found items, as well as being able to keep cleaning carts tidy and well equipped are also important.
