Marketing
Without creative marketing professionals, companies and organisations cannot sell, advertise or inform the general public about their particular product. Individuals in this challenging field are valued for their ability to design unique promotion campaigns that put the message across.
Depending on the nature of the employer’s particular product, duties for successful applicants are varied, but might involve developing advertising campaigns, organising events, arranging corporate sponsorship and doing market research. Incumbents will liaise with management and clients to ensure any campaign or advertisement meets designated requirements.
Candidates will ideally have a marketing or social science degree as well as experience in the field that their potential employer is involved with. Necessary attributes for applicants are creativity, ability to think outside the box, good communication skills, computer familiarity and the ability to work to deadlines.
Companies, advertising agencies, foundations and public sector departments in Canada all need professional staff, and there are vacancies in cities such as Ottawa, Vancouver and Quebec City. Annual salaries range from around C
$30,000 up to C
$100,000 for managers. Private sector employers also often offer productivity bonuses.
